New Year's Eve

Here we are, on the brink of a new year.  Just like Christmas brings more acute feelings of joy and goodwill, a new year brings thoughts of a renewal.  A clean slate to write a new, hopefully, better chapter on our journey in this life.

There are so many New Year's traditions. My dear mother-in-law started each year with new broom.  To her it was like leaving the old dirt behind.

Other people must have black-eyed peas or my friends here in Arizona must have tamales to hope for good luck.  My sweet sister-in-law encourages her loved ones to sleep with a coin under their pillow, the legend is to have prosperity in the new year.

I just heard of a new legend I am going to try this year. It is that today, December 31st is "Good Riddance Day".
You write down on a sheet of paper everything that is destructive in your life; bad habits, toxic people, negative things in your life that are zapping your positive, creative energy.  Then tonight you destroy that sheet of paper, either by shredding it or burning it.

Tomorrow, January 1st, wake up anew, refreshed with the promise of great, wonderful things to come to you in 2012!
