Ramblings in February

I feel like my mind is jumping from here to there today. I am trying to keep in touch with all my friends and rellies in the Midwest, seeing how they are fairing with this crazy weather. Sounds like Chicago is getting the brunt of it. My sister reports total strangers are holding hands just to get across the street, the wind is so strong.

Here in Phoenix, the sky is crystal clear and blue as can be, but we are about 30 degrees cooler than we normally are.

All of this makes me want to hunker down and cook.  I have another recipe to share.  Gosh, why are these new recipes so tasty?  All I want to do is eat!?

Teri's Salad
2 Tablespoons butter
3 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 cup pecan halves
3 pears
1/2 cup Chervil goat cheese
1 cup craisins
2 bags field greens
Brianna's Blush Wine Vinaigrette

Melt butter in frypan. Top with brown sugar. Toss pecans and stir for 10 minutes. Allow to cool and break apart.
Dice pears and mix with lemon juice to avoid browning.
Mix in all remaining ingredients and toss with vinaigrette.

This is not only pretty, but oh, so delicious!

On another front, I read in Consumer Reports, February 2011 issue that the best way to clean your jewelry is to soak your gems in mild soapy water and use an old toothbrush to clean them.  Personally, I use a little rubbing alcohol and water, spray it on my rings and brush to clean the gunk off.  Of course, fragile items like opals and pearls, you just use a soft jeweler's cloth to polish them.  The point of the article is NOT to waste your money on commercial jewelry cleaners or ultrasound machines.  Well now, isn't that a relief?  One thing I don't have to rush out to buy!   (Kidding!)
