First Sunday in Advent

Advent has arrived.  I know retail has been planning this for months, and I do understand that.  But today is the beginning of the church's celebration, the First Sunday in Advent, while we await the birth of Jesus. Let us begin to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas.

Come Thou precious ransom come.
Only hope for sinful mortals.
Come, oh Savior of the world.
Open are to Thee all portals.
Come, Thy beauty let us see.
Anxiously we wait for Thee.

We lit the first candle in the Advent wreath.  Sorry, I don't take pictures in chuch with a flash while the worship service is going on.  You'll just have to take my word, the first candle was lit!  :)

Now on to Advent celebrations, Christmas festivities, and mailing Christmas cards.

I have to show you my latest.  A good friend sent me this and I am going to make it for a party next Sunday. All you need is a 14" styrofoam cone, clean, hulled strawberries-patted dry, a "bunch" of mint sprigs, toothpicks and a pineapple piece for the star on top. Place the toothpick in the cone, position the strawberry on it and repeat over the circumference of the cone. Fill in with mint sprigs. Top with the star.

Don't cha just love it!?!
Enjoy your first Sunday in Advent.
