I get several magazines each month.  I skim them or devour them, depending on how much time I have. This month, Martha Stewart had an article about collections.  Through the years I have collections that have come and gone.  I am obsessed by the hunt, finding just the item to fit the puzzle piece to make that collection whole, I marvel at the said collection for while, then I tire of it and move on.  I've had heart collections, Santa collections, and depression glass collections.

When I saw this idea, I loved it.  I do love fine arts, be it aprons, kitchen towels or, in this case, hand crocheted pot holders.  Wouldn't be fun to own a few of these beauties?  Plus, it's not a collection that just sits around gathering dust.  You actually use these!

My favorite collection now are cloth handkerchiefs. My Grandma started me on this when I was a child.  She made the fine crocheted edging or the tatted edging and tried to teach me.  I couldn't get the hang of it. She made me a couple of lovely lace edged handkerchiefs, I still have to this day. Can you imagine that was 50+ years ago?  Good Lord! Here is the one she gave me. If you look closely, you can see a hole in the upper right corner.  I no longer use it, but I can't throw it away. When I touch it, I touch my loving Grandma.

Here is a hankie my sister gave me.  It has special meaning because of my name!

I bought this one in Rome last January.  What fun it was to scour the upscale linen shops in ancient Rome and feel the luxurious texture of the fine cloth.

I treasure this one.  It was given to me by my son. Can you read the applique?

This is also a favorite, given to me by my friend who spent 4 months in Paris.  I can see her enjoying the linen shops as much as I did.
I use these, I wash them, I iron them lovingly.  They are a part of my history. They each tell a story and I tuck them away, bringing them out, one by one, thinking of the person that gave them to me. It makes my day brighter!
