Diet is Now Called Lifestyle Change


Diet, the famous 4 letter word has such a negative connotation. No surprise there! Ask any health professional and it is now called "Lifestyle Change". As in, "How are you doing on your Lifestyle Change?"
On one hand, I want to say, "It's a diet, call it what it is!" and on the other hand, a lifestyle change is exactly what it should be called, since if you just go on a diet and not change your lifestyle, you really might as well not bother with the diet in the first place. You are going to gain all the weight back!

Many of us eat the right foods. We don't eat donuts for breakfast or dessert after every meal, it's just that our portions have gotten out of control.

Here is a reminder about what a portion size is. We are all used to super-sizing our food. I think some of you will be shocked what a portion size really is. Now, perhaps, you'll understand why you are overweight. It's not only what you eat, but how much.

What I'm showing here is and amount equivalent to one serving.

Protein
Meat portion=size of playing card
Beans=1/2 cup
Peanut butter=2 Tablespoons

Grains
Rice/Pasta=1/2 cup
Potato=size of a small adult female fist
Bread=size of tape cassette

Fruit/Vegetable
Whole Fruit=size of baseball
Dried Fruit=size of egg

Dairy
Yogurt/Cottage Cheese/Ice Cream=size of 1/2 baseball
Cheese=Size of 4 dice
Butter/Margarine/Cream Cheese=size of one die (as in singular of dice!)

Lifestyle Change sound so much better then Diet to me!
