Rome III

I have been looking forward to this day since college Art History class. I get to go see the Sistine Chapel and all of Michelangelo's famous work! Yes, I get to see the largest church in the world, St. Peter's Basilica and observe the home of the Roman Catholic faith too. We planned to spend the entire day at Vatican City.
First, we went through the Vatican Museums.
From intricate floor mosaics

To the incredibly magnificent ceilings

To all of the art and sculptures and tapestries on the walls

It was a sight to behold.
Then on to my long awaited Sistine Chapel. It was everything I thought it might be while I was daydreaming through my art history class. I was breathless. I took a picture, without flash, thanks goodness, as I then was yelled at for taking any picture. (Must have missed that sign when I entered the chapel.) I was gobsmacked

We ended the tour at St. Peter's Basilica. It's huge! It's glorious with all of the paintings, mosaics and gold. It's spiritual.

As we exited the Basilica, we saw the Pope's Swiss Guard. Their uniforms were designed by Michelangelo, in royal red, blue and gold.
What a day! One could spend a week and still not see everything.
