Shop With a Cop

Yesterday Foxtrot Freddie and I had an errand at Target. The place was mobbed, let me rephrase that, MOBBED with police officers and kids. Police were there in full uniform, in t-shirts that read "Probation Officer" or "Anti-Gang Task Force". Some wore bullet proof vests. They were all armed with shopping lists and calculators. Target had hot chocolate and popcorn for all of the kids. There were red-shirted Target Team Members helping direct traffic.
So what was the event? It was the annual Shop With A Cop. The Scottsdale Police raise funds all year long and this year 250 kids were given $150 to Christmas shop. There were very few restrictions. Some bought for themselves only. I saw many a smile coming out of Target with their new bike. Some bought for others in their family. One child bought 5 winter coats, one for each member in his family. The check out "Target Team Members" were in tears. They said it was their favorite day of the year, it was so heart warming. A big Thanks to the Scottsdale PD for this community outreach program. Also to Target, everyone had a big smile.

Here is an article from the Scottsdale Police News.
Come join us in helping children shop for Christmas gifts. Be a part of a child having a fun experience interacting with police and probation officers, should you wish to contribute..

The fun begins with breakfast at 6:30 am at the Granite Reef Senior Citizen Center in Scottsdale followed by shopping at the Target on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd and the 101 Freeway. If interested in participating, contact Dene Phillips at
