Annie Oakley

Yesterday was the celebration of Annie Oakley's birthday, August 13, 1860. She was an expert markswoman, nicknamed "Little Sure Shot" touring the country with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, even at one point shooting the burning end of a lit cigarette held in the lips of Kaiser Wilhelm, the Crown Prince of Germany. She was fiercely independent, was known for her compassion, generosity and strength of character. When I was 3, I wanted to grow up and be just like her, so did my 5 year old sister!
