I had a great surprise yesterday. A friend dropped by and brought me the most wonderful bouquet of humongous pink peonies! I miss these from living in the Midwest. When we lived in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin, the peony is a very welcome sight in the spring/early summer. Their green foliage shoots up rather quickly after the frost is gone, and then come these incredible buds and ultimately flowers. Some people call these the poor man's rose, as they are so deliciously fragrant, they will fill an entire room...and more! I could sit all afternoon and inhale the sweet scent of these blossoms. This particular bouquet had blooms in it that measured more than 6" across! They were huge and looked so pretty in my kitchen. Wasn't that a thoughtful gift? I'll enjoy them for days to come.
