Angie's List

Have you heard of Angie's List? It is an internet contractor referral program. I was introduced to it when it was first launched because of being a Realtor. It costs $59.00 annually to be a member. Since I do quite a bit of remodeling and refer my clients to various vendors, I thought I'd try it.
When Ben moved to MN he bought an older home that needed a lot of work. Having just started a new demanding job, he wasn't available for all the preliminary work that had to be done. I became the "onsite supervisor" and was at the house when the home inspection was done. I took LOTS of digital photographs. Then I got on Angie's List and contacted 3 vendors in each discipline, 3 plumbers, 3 electricians, 3 landscapers, 3 painters, 3 dry wall guys, 3 fence companies, and 3 carpet cleaners, all via e-mail attaching the pictures and an explanation of what I wanted done. To my surprise, most of them responded to me with estimates. I then phoned and interviewed them. I selected the ones I felt comfortable with. I scheduled the service starting the day of closing, for the rest of the week (4 days). To my amazement, I had 100% success with Angie's List. All of the vendors were prompt, responsible, professional and on budget. It was worth every penny of the $59.00. plus I felt good about the consumer being the one to pay for the list and not the vendor, hopefully that keeps the "monkey business" to a minimum. It's a good way to get things done when you are not familiar with vendors or areas.
I have used them for many things now and just last week, Angie's List called me. The Arizona Republic Newspaper is doing an article on Angie's List and wanted to interview me. Today they came out and took pictures of the addition I did here in AZ to our present house. I am curious to see how the article turns out. You will be able to read it if you log onto www.azcentral.com on December 26th.
